Paid time off (PTO)

Whether you want to take a vacation, run some errands or just read a book, it’s important that you take time away from work to do the things important to you so you can be at your best. You get to choose whether you take it as a vacation day or simply a personal day.

  • Full-time employee? Start earning PTO on your first day of employment, and accrue 4.62 hours of PTO per pay period, up to 120 hours a year. Any unused PTO carries over year to year and doesn’t expire. Note: You’ll stop accruing PTO when you reach 180 hours. Refer to the employee handbook for details.
  • Part-time employee? Accrue PTO on a prorated basis starting on your first day. The prorated amount depends on the number of hours you regularly work in a 40-hour workweek. Accrual is capped at 4.62 hours of PTO per pay period or 180 hours.
  • Temporary employee/intern? Sorry, you’re not eligible for PTO.

Reminder: PTO is not interchangeable with sick time nor is it to be used in lieu of an eligible leave of absence (e.g., FMLA, statutory leave, pregnancy, medical leave).

Sick time

Doctor visits, medical procedures or just caring for yourself or a family member. Splunk’s sick time policy lets you take care of yourself, so you can get back to doing the things you love. We want all Splunkers to be healthy and safe to bring their best selves to work!

All full-time and part-time employees will be granted 80 hours of sick time on January 1 of each calendar year (or upon date of hire). If you have unused sick time at the end of a calendar year, you can carry over up to 80 hours of sick time to the new calendar year. You cannot have more than 160 hours of sick-time balance.

Sick time can be used in one-hour increments, to cover all or part of a workday, unless otherwise required by applicable law.

If you’re out for five consecutive days or more, you may need to verify that your absence was for applicable sick-time use and, if requested, you must provide appropriate verification within 10 calendar days following the first day on which you used sick time or as otherwise permitted under applicable law. Depending on the circumstances, if you need to use an extended amount of sick time, you may be eligible for a leave of absence. Contact Splunk’s third-party leave administrator to learn more about your leave of absence options.

You may use sick time while on an approved leave of absence to supplement your pay during a mandatory waiting period or to supplement other state or local wage replacement benefits up to 100% of your base pay.

Sick time is not intended for extending other time off (e.g., PTO/vacation, company holidays, global rest days, parental leaves or volunteer time). Splunk reserves the right to request a doctor’s note for your absence.

Learn more by reviewing the U.S. Sick Time Policy.

Volunteering

Community service is what we’re all about. Whether you volunteer with disaster relief efforts, national charities, schools, or local not-for-profit and community organizations, Splunk supports you.

All employees are eligible for up to 40 hours of paid time off each year to volunteer. You must schedule in advance and receive approval from your manager.

For more information, check out Splunk for Good on the Pwny portal.

Voting

It’s one of your most sacred rights as an American citizen. And we want to make it as easy as possible for you to exercise that right. You receive up to two hours of paid time off, taken at the beginning or end of your workday, to vote on Election Day.

Jury duty

Few of us look forward to receiving that jury notice in the mail, but it’s an important civic duty, and we want to support you in fulfilling it. If you’re a regular full-time or part-time employee, you’re eligible for up to 10 days of paid leave each calendar year for jury duty or other court appearances compelled by subpoena or other court process.

Regular part-time employees are eligible for paid jury duty leave based on hours regularly scheduled to work. Temporary employees, including interns, aren’t eligible for paid jury duty leave.

Be sure to notify your manager as soon as you receive a notice or summons from the court, and initiate a request for approval in Workday.

Bereavement

In the event of the death of a family member, you may take up to 10 work days off with pay per year, based on your regular base pay and normal schedule. Promptly notify your manager of your need to take such leave and initiate your time-off request for approval in Workday. If you need additional time off, talk with your manager about using vacation time or explore taking a leave of absence (e.g., unpaid personal leave, FMLA). Contact our leave administrator to discuss your other leave options.

How to request time off

Requesting time off is as easy as 1-2-3.

  1. Review your time-off needs with your manager.
  2. Submit your time-off request through Workday.
  3. Refer to our Time Off Request Instructions
  4. Verify that your time-off request is approved by your manager.
